~~~Sob sob ~~~~
My girlfriend has just left london heading back to Assen. Didnt actually spend much private time with her to be honest, basically we have been very very busy over the weekend and weekdays.
Saturday's S&S wedding was marvellous. One of the best wedding that I've ever attended. I tried very hard to hold my tears during Stanley's speech. He was actually being himself --- a person that I believe has changed so much by the love of Christ, from ignorant to a reborn person.
Followed by the Reunion Dinner (Hotpot) during the fellowship at 7pm. It would be perfect if I hadn't eaten too much in the wedding's lunch.
I was so tired on Sunday, trying to recover from the 2 hour sleep on Friday and few hours sleep on Saturday. End up she gave the physics tuition to my student. Sunday school was one of the worst, I have to admit that. Basically, I just can't be bother to control these "energetic" youths --- sorry people, i just lost my steam on that day, and the preparation was crapppp..
After the service, we went to visit Rev Foo and Si Mo in Woking. Rev Foo actually went all the way to Derby to preach during the Chinese New Year. He came back at 9pm-ish. He looked so tired but still try to entertain us. I never heard from him complaining about his "tireness" in serving the Lord. 40 years of discipleship and he's now 65 and still full of passion and energy--- but me, screwed up the Sunday School becoz of so called "tiredness", shame on me !!!
Anyway, we had good chat with both of them on that evening. I really hope to see them again soon. Pray that God grant them extra strength to continue their serving journey --- a model for me to learn.
My brother is in London now. Went to see him yesterday night. Hope to catch up with him during weekend, but as usual, my weekend is even busier than my weekdays. Hope I can spend precious time with him....
This is The Day ~~~
Let's sing together:
This is the day This the day
That the Lord has made That the Lord has made
We will rejoice We will rejoice
And be glad in it And be glad in it.....
Woo...my girlfriend is now Dr. Goh. She had her viva examination at 11am, by 1pm she was informed that she's passed. The quickest PhD oral examination that I've ever heard. Woo ~~~~
Well done !! Praise the Lord.... Thank you Jesus...
Tomorrow's S&S wedding...another Day "made" by the Lord....we shall rejoice together.
Keep going everyone....
Will Pray For You ~~~
Yeah~~~ my girlfriend (totoro) is coming back to London tomorrow night. She's having Phd oral examination on Friday 11am. She's recenlty very stress with her PhD exam + work.
Dear God, may your blessing and wisdom be with her...
I can foresee i will have a very busy weekend, starting on Friday evening, presumably a dinner or party to celebrate her "achievement" (fingercrossed), then at night i need to stay in church to prepare for S&S wedding.
I need to wake up at 5am on Saturday then followed by the hectic wedding day schedule. This week fellowship programme is "Reunion Dinner" (Hurray !!!), on Saturday's evening.
Sunday is definitely not a sabbath day: tuition + sunday school + praise team + New Year Celebration in church + Visit to Rev Foo's house.
I hope both my girlfriend and I will enjoy this weekend and her stay in London. Looking foward to tomorrow~~~~
Jeremiah 29:11-14
I was looking for a particular scripture for the past few weeks, I know it is from Jeremiah but I really had a hard time locating it in the Bible. The reason I was so eager to read it is because the words brings so much inspiration to me. I remembered the meaning of the words, but nothing is stronger than to read the exact words ;-).
A lady in a church quoted this verse to me when she prayed for me at a time when I was 'lost' and struggling to find 'faith'. It was the first time I heard the verse, and at that moment, it felt so right, as though that these words were spoken to me.
Last Friday, I went for a gathering at a friend's place. At the end of the meeting, we prayed for each other, and again this verse were quoted by a brother from Nigeria. And I felt it in my heart, I am so so thankful to God, because He knows how much His words means to me that time.
Jeremiah 29:11-14
11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you, declares the LORD, and will bring you back from captivity.
Homesick~~~
One of my colleagues passed her viva 10 minutes ago, she's now a Dr.
Am listening to 988 online, one of the chinese radio broadcasts in Malaysia. Listening to all those Chinese New Year songs and advertisements, it does make me feel homesick. I'm imagining the New Year atmosphere back home!!
I was in Malaysia during CNY for the past 2 years. Sob sob... not going home this year~~
Last year's reunion dinner was with everyone, still remember dad cook a steamed-fish, a very delicious one...
What's the point of "winning" a PhD, and "loses" someone that you love.
忘 記 背 後 努 力 面 前 的, 向 著 標 竿 直 跑 、 要 得 神 在 基 督 耶 穌 裡 從 上 面 召 我 來 得 的 獎 賞. (Philippians 3:14-15)
I love you Dad
My dad retires today- 19 Jan 2006, only in his career, but he is still working full-time as a wonderful father and husband ;-)
He is 60 years old this year. A few weeks ago, he told me that he has worked for 42 years, starting at the age of 18 years old. And me, starting to work only at 27, makes me work lesser than my dad by almost 10 years. I am really amazed by my dad’s strength. Never once I heard him complain to his kids about his job. He is always so grateful and so content. And here I am, sometimes complaining about small little things in my work.
When my dad rretires from his first job as an army, he was jobless for a while. My dad always seems to put things under control, he always seems to know...although at that time in the 80s, a job is hard to get. I remembered back then, dad still being jobless, bought a house in Malacca, my dad said ‘lucky him he bought a small house in KL, earning him some money from selling it’. I am glad too, our house in Malacca is where all beautiful memories were born :-). Then, one day, mum told us that dad got job as a mechanic servicing planes in a new airport in Malacca. Somehow this job is for him, he is really a great mechanic. Since then, dad has been working there, working OT either late at night or early in the morning. He is always the one who prepares us to school. I still remember his voice saying ‘Lee, time to wake up’.
Although my dad may look fierce, but when you get to know him, he is will smile from ear to ear to welcome you. He is very friendly and humble. He told us a story that I remembered till today. When he was 18, we worked in a shop that sells sewing machines, earning less than RM100. He could barely survive with that money. An Indian friend of my dad came to ask for financial help. He needed some money to pay for his bar exam. My dad, being him, never hesitated to borrow him the money, although many people have adviced him otherwise. And today, my dad’s friend is a successful lawyer and of course, we get free consultation ever since ;-). To name it all, dad has a kind and loving heart. He is a responsible and righteous person. I really believe he is only person I know who try to keep the law.
I guess my dad has a lot of influence on us, I think especially me. I truly looked up at him very much. I always feel that he knows all about me. He never once failed to calm and soothe my heart whenever I am down, sad or angry. I dont know whether it is his voice, or his words, or his deep understanding of my character, to me, he is just so magical and wonderful when it comes to deal with me. So, since young, I always always try to do my best, in my studies and work, just to make him proud. I just want to give him something he can be proud off. I know in my heart he is.
My dad doesn’t believe in Jesus Christ yet. It is one thing that makes me really sad plus worry too. Please please Father in Heavens, bring your grace to my home in Malacca. We really need You in our life and Thank you Father for your blessing in our home.
Soaring High
But they that wait upon the Lord,
Shall renew their strength,
They shall mount up with wings as Eagles..
Isaiah 40:31
May faith keep you strong and full of hope always.
These are not my days...
A few sad things happened this week:
(1) I got rejected by Shell, not even invited for interview, what a shame! Anyway, i think life is never easy, you can't plan everything by your own.
(2) The machine is still not working perfectly. I didn't manage to get consistent experiment data. You are right, who cares?? Life goes on....
(3) My right arm is aching for no reason, and i have an important badminton tournament tomorrow with Brunel university. We have to win this game, wish me luck!
(4) My supervisor forgot to pay me this month..sigh...what a joke !!
(5) Heard a few sad news from my friends and brothers/sisters.
(6) There's basically no good news for me to be happy...don't believe me, click on www.bbc.co.uk
This is just one of those ridiculous days...i will overcome this, hold me close God...
Cintailah Malaysia~~~
Inilah kali pertama saya menulis dalam Bahasa sejak saya menamati UEC pada tahun 1999, sekira-kira 6 tahun yang lalu. Amat gembiranya saya dapat menulis ayat pertama tanpa menggunakan kamus, inilah ayat kedua, pandainya saya !!! : p
Semasa pencarian kerja, saya terpaksa mengisi satu bahagian tentang "Language" dalam borang permohonan. Beginilah saya tulis, Bahasa Malaysia (pangkat 1 hingga 10, 10 ialah terbaik) -- Oral (8), Tulis (8). Hingga kini, barulah saya dapati pangkat tulis and oral saya ialah sebagus 4, mungkin lagi rendah.
Tak apalah, tiada orang akan mengkaji "kehebatan" Bahasa saya di England, saya anggap, walaubagaimanapun saya dapat C5 (eii..credit juga lah, cukup bagus bagi saya !!) dalam SPM, masih boleh kira Malaysian, masih boleh kira "native language", maknanya "Bahasa National" saya.
Saya telah hidup sepanjang hayat di Malaysia, tetapi seorang kawan Malay pun tidak dapat saya kenal, malunya saya!!! Jika saya ada banyak kawan Malay di Malaysia atau England, manatau saya boleh memberitahu mereka tentang "khabar baik" Jesus.
Mungkin satu hari Tuhan "panggil" saya berkoban untuk Jesus terhadap masyarakat Muslim di Malaysia? Ada kemungkinan juga, siapa tahu?
Friday Night
Went to Chinatown to have dinner with Billy in Wong Kei after work, followed by few pint of beer in a pub nearby. We had pleasant chat and share our different point of views on the church, the fellowship and the missionary work. In short, it was quite a nice sharing and discussion.
Am now in Peter's house and will overnight here. The reason is i cant bother to wake up early tomorrow morning and go to king's cross to meet him, coz i'm pooling his car to Birmingham tomorrow.
Too many meetings these days....and tomorrow will be one of those ticky meetings...wish me luck.
Where's The Hope??
Just read an article from Newscientist titled "China and India hold the world in balance". Very interesting facts:
(1) One in every two tonnes of cement poured today will be in China.
(2) China uses one-quarter of all the world’s steel, eats one-third of the world’s rice, and is the world’s largest importer of tropical timber and second largest importer of oil.
Guess who's the first?? Bloody American !!!
(3) China is now the second largest source of greenhouse gas carbon dioxide, while India is fourth.
Guess who's the first?? ....You're right !!!
(4) Worldwatch agrees with this, estimating the worldwide “ecological footprint” – the amount of resources needed to support each individual – of the average Chinese person at 1.6 hectares, the average Indian at 0.8 hectares.
The average US citizen's ecological footprint is estimated at a whopping 9.7 hectares !!!!
(5) If China’s economy continues to grow at the present rate, average Chinese incomes will reach current US levels by 2031. At that point “China would consume two-thirds of the world’s current grain harvest and twice the world’s current paper production".
What the heck ~~~~what will the world be???
Can technology solve the food and water crisis, environmental issue in future, i wonder?
Why not you give me a reason why don't we need God ???!!! I see no hope at all with human's approach.
Piece of Art or Science??
The microcope picture shows the screw dislocation crystal growth of Hexatriacontane (C36H74).
Well, the reason i show this photo is because i need to grow a crystal with the size of at least 50 times bigger than this. It's not impossible, but quite tricky. So far there's no reported literature in macroscopic single crystal C36H74.
I just need a few of these single crystals, put it into the machine, scan it, write my thesis, defend my work, publish it in J Phys Chem., and hopefully i can graduate.
The thing is I need 1 kg of this material for my experiment, and 50g of this material cost £33.70, i hope my boss gonna pay for it.
Broken-minded Human~~~
Heard from many of my colleagues and friends that they were impressed and touched by the Chinese director Lee Ang's film --- Brokenback Mountain, a romance cowboy gay film.
Indeed, this film is one of the many winning awards film, no suprise. The world is getting more and more insane, more and more wild, sarcastically human are getting more and more educated. In science, we call this EVOLUTION, but devolution in moral, in fact the so called "intellectual" will argue there's nothing wrong with gay, they'll name you a narrow-minded person !!
1 Cor 6:9 "Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals"
1 Tim 1:9-10 "realizing the fact that (civil) law is not made for a righteous man, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers"
Oh human, please repent, or least do not go against the nature....
My Hope~~~
This is one of the typical questions that Shell ask me in the application form:
Why do you want to work for Shell and how your skill fit into the preference you've chosen(something like that):
The opportunity to engage in a technology driven, R&D intensive organisation with the leading petrochemical company drew me to this preference. Furthermore, this company will provide me a global platform to share my passion to out-think, out-smart and out-perform. My relevant skills will contribute to the highly competitive team and will successfully demonstrate a diversity of talents and perspectives together.
(1) Strong Analytical Skill: Both industrial and academic training have provided me with a solid foundation in numerical and analytical capability, as well as the ability to think independently. I utilised the skills and techniques in areas where I need to recognize and validate problems, demonstrate originality, independent and critical thinking, and the ability to develop theoretical concepts.
(2) Strong Technical and Experimental Skills: My PhD research on complex pharmaceutical material required me to master several innovative techniques and instrumentation for physico-chemical characterisation. I've also advanced my analytical skills and developed a novel experimental technique to study in depth the thermodynamics behaviour, surface chemistry and crystalline properties of organic material. I've developed strong academic background major in Advanced Material Engineering Technology.
(3) Leadership and Teamwork Ability: Presiding the Chinese youth ministry in the local community, I managed to converse my vision and aim evidently. Many were encouraged to follow it and accomplished the goals successfully. My role as the Badminton Team Captain in Imperial College also provided ample practice for effective communication.
(4) Knowledge in Statistical Modelling: I utilised statistical field theories for analysing complex, multivariate, nonlinear and nonstationary data. I had the experience in conducting statistical analyses using Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) approach.
Oh Lord, this is my only hope, the only way for me to stay in Holland with my girlfriend--- it's up to you...Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will be Done....
Excellent Business Idea
This is a business that created by a 21 year old British student who's doing 1st year Business Management in University of Nottingham. This e-business is called MillionDollar Homepage. The idea is simple: Selling pixel on his one-page webpage to those who want to adverstise. He then make money from 1,000,000 pixels, each pixel for $1.
Alex started his plan on August. He's now a millionaire within 5 months. You can see how he started the business from scratch to a millionaire in his blog. He's now too busy with attending all the press meetings and interviews.
999,000 pixel were sold up to date, and the remaining 1000 pixels were placed in Ebay for auction. And guess what, the up to date bid is now USD160k before the bid ends on Wednesday. This is a real business, perhaps you would wonder why so many people pay for the advertisement. The answer is simple, this homepage spread from mouth to mouth and does make an impact to the revenue. Some even report that their customer's traffic increase by a factor of 10.
The idea is simple, but it works !!!
I was thinking to make a webpage called millionchurhes.com, where all the churches in the world can put their church logo in the homepage. The money that they pay for the advertisement will treat as offering for the church missionary.
Do you think this will work? God, please give me wisdom....
Chinese Thinking
Like this joke:
A Chinese walks into a bank in New York City and asks for the loan officer. He tells the loan officer that he is going to Taiwan on business for two weeks and needs to borrow $5,000. The bank officer tells him that the bank will need some form of security for the loan, so the Chinese hands over the keys to a new Ferrari parked on the street in front of the bank.
He produces the title and everything checked out.The loan officer agrees to accept the car as collateral for the loan. The bank's president and its officers all enjoy a good laugh at the Chinese for using a $250,000 Ferrari as collateral against a $5,000 loan....
An employee of the bank then drives the Ferrari into the bank's underground garage and parks it there. Two weeks later, the Chinese returns, repays the $5,000 and the interest, which comes to $15.41. The loan officer says, "Sir, we are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out and found that you are a multi-millionaire. What puzzles us is,why would you bother to borrow $5,000?"
The Chinese replies: "Where else in New York City can I park my car for two weeks for only $15.41 and expect it to be there when I return?"
2006 Forecast
I will definitely put the title as "2006 Prophecy", if i don't know the bible well, coz a false prophet will be stoned to death, according to the book of Isaiah. So I will write down what i forecast to happen in 2006. (Well, the good thing about blog is you can write whatever you like without carrying any responsibilities.)
Here's the list of 2006 forecasts (global + personal):
(a) Global warming and environmental issue will keep headlining the media, and focus will be shifted to the alarming environmental problem caused by China, India and Brazil.
(b) More hurricanes will be reported not only in America continent, but all over the world.
(c) Iran will carry on her ambitious nuclear plan, no matter how the EU negotiates or protests.
(d) US will have big problem in Iraq's troop withdrawing issue. Tony Blair will step down for PM as well.
(e) Middle East issue --- never ending and will get worse after the Israeli's pull out from West Bank.
(f) Bird flu issue --- will be resolved and detail investigated. Unfortunately, a new virus will invade the entire nation unexpectedly, finger-crossed this wont happen!!!
(g) England will not win for the World Cup !!! At most get into quarter final, which i doubt too. :p
(h) I will still be in London end of this year, hopefully not next year.
(i) King's Cross Youth Fellowship (age below 15) will reform, revive and transform to a more interesting fellowship. The Praise Team will do well with the mercy of God. A very fruitful year for the youth as well.
(j) Chinese churches will change the strategy to provide the need of gospel to the Chinese from Mainland China. Hong Kongners Christian in England will reach a saturated state.
(k) My girlfriend will enjoy working in Holland and will find a good church. Please God...
(l) I will be very familiar with Amsterdam Schiphol Airport for some reasons.
(m) Many more predictions in my mind...i'd better stop it...
Happy 2006 with the mercy and love of God.....
Thank You Lord
I think i've started to love Don Moen's songs of praise. He is a musician, singer, song writer and worship leader. Lots of wonderful songs are composed by him, for instance I Will Sing, God Will Make a Way, Thank You Lord etc etc...
"Thank You Lord" and "When It's All been Said and Done" strike me very hard even till now, especially it did cheer me up once i was pretty down during the job hunting.
It's quite amazing how Don came to write the song Thank You Lord. He sat in his church and pray to the Lord to give him a song that will bring people to give thanks to Him easily, that will bring thanksgiving on their lips. The result is "Thank You Lord".
Sometimes a worship song doesnt have to be like a complicated classic type. Simple but with impact, and from God -- that's what we need.
Hello 2006
Really enjoyed these few days, starting from New Year's Eve celebration at Tower Bridge, although the fireworks were at the London Eye area and wasnt really a real count down, but still I enjoyed the moment of "fellowship" with brothers and sisters.
Then followed by the New Year's day on Sunday. A group of younsters in church have brightened up the first day of 2006, and i believe this will continue to sustain my fervor in serving, from their passion and enthusiasm, their joy and hope, their laughters, their energy and pure heart ---i think i've experienced the glory of God.
They are so young and energetic, and considered themselves as "Lord's Army". You might think they are too naive or childish or playful, but I pray that God will prove you wrong in future.
As usual, i have "faith" in them --- go go go soldiers.
:p
After the service, about 15 of us from the youth fellowship went for a New Year's Dinner at Joy King Lau in China Town. It was great fun and the food was much better than the previous time that i had. We then went to a Tim's house who lives in Holborn. 3 of us had very pleasant and encouraging conversation without realising it was 3am in the morning. 3 of us had to sleep on a single bed (i cant imagine how either) and i am so tired now.
Am going to Angel's house for dinner + helping up in Stanley & Sammy's marriage preparation. What a great fun i can imagine !!
Gonna start working hard after today, i promise---- one of my New Year Resoultions --- to finish my PhD this year.
Happy New Year and God Bless.
ONE VOICE
Father we ask of You this day, come and heal our land.
Knit our hearts together,
That Your glory might be seen in us;
Then the world will know that Jesus Christ is Lord!
Let us be one voice that glorifies Your name.
Let us be one voice declaring that You reign.
Let us be one voice in love and harmony,
And we pray O God, grant us unity.
Now is the time for you and I to join our hearts in praise.
That the name of Jesus,
Will be lifted high above the earth,
Then the world will know that Jesus Christ is Lord.
